Sal Mirabile

När mitt verk Exsaltorium visades på Skulpturens hus 2005 inbjöd jag koreografen Virpi Pahkinen att dansa i utställningen. Det blev ett starkt visuellt möte. Vi utvecklade detta i dansverket Sal Mirabile som visades på Dansens hus 2006. Exsaltorium skapade där en visuell spänning som förlöstes i en flödande saltregnskomposition i föreställningens final.

När Virpi Pahkinens särpräglade konstnärskap finner rätt motstånd och medspel i rum, ljus, musik och kropp uppstår sinnlig magi. Och tiden gör en extra loop i universum. I Sal Mirabile återfinns många av Pahkinens bekanta medarbetare, men för det poetiska rummet står en ny ”syskonsjäl”, konstnären Lovisa Johansson. Delar av hennes installation Exsaltorium (visad på Skulpturens hus 2005) gör Stora scenen till en saltkatedral. Här är en grotta av spetsiga stalaktiter, halva timglas som då och då pustar ut saltstrålar. De träffar metallskimrande toppar på golvet omgivna av mjuka salthögar. Ljudet liknar en stilla viskning, och i föreställningens klimax rör sig dansarna i och ur det tätnande regnets rytm. Det ofruktbara saltet föder något nytt. … Sällan har 830 människor varit så knäpptysta före applådtack. Man vill inte bryta förtrollningen utan känna tiden andas i kroppen och betrakta de förgängliga fotspåren i saltet.” A. Ångström, SvD

When my installation Exsaltorium was shown at Skulpturens hus 2005 I invited the choreographer Virpi Pahkinen to dance in the exhibition. It became a very strong visual confrontation. We developed this into the dance piece Sal Mirabile, which was shown in Dansens Hus 2006. “Exsaltorium” there created a visual tension that was relieved in a streaming salt rain composition in the dance finale.

In Sal Mirabile many of her well-known co-workers appear, but for the poetic room she has met a new “sister-in-soul”, the artist Lovisa Johansson. Parts of her installation Exsaltorium (shown at Skulpturens Hus 2005) changes the Big Stage into a salt cathedral. Here is a cave with pointed stalactites, half hour-glasses which now and then releases salt beams They hit metallic cones at the floor surrounded by soft heaps of salt. The sound resembles a soft whisper and in the climax of the performance the dancers move in and out in the tightening rhythm of the rain.
